How Does the Rapid Antigen Test Work?

Diagnostic tests can tell you if you currently have a COVID-19 infection by testing for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Antigen tests are a type of diagnostic test that see if there are viral proteins in a sample taken from inside your nose with a swab.

How Is the Antigen Test Done?

  1. A sterile swab is inserted into your nostril about 2 inches to reach the surface of the posterior nasopharynx.
  2. The liquid sample from the swab is extracted using an extraction buffer tube.
  3. The sample is placed in the test device.

Test results are read in approximately 20 minutes. We will be able to provide your test results within 15 to 30 minutes in a HIPAA-compliant portal.

What Does a Negative Test Result Mean?

A negative result means the antigen for COVID-19 was not detected in your specimen and there was no evidence of infection at the time the test was performed. However, a negative test does not definitively rule out infection with the virus.

All testing should be performed using the CDC guidelines for testing after recent exposure. Also, if you test too soon when symptoms develop, you may get a false negative test, which does not conclude you do not have an active COVID-19 infection.

What Does a Positive Test Result Mean?

A positive result means you are most likely infected with the virus that causes COVID-19. We will provide you with information on how to best care for yourself and avoid spreading the virus to others.

COVID-19 PCR Testing for Travel

We also offer polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, which can detect the presence of a virus by looking for genetic material from the virus. Also called a molecular test, the PCR test is very accurate and is frequently used for travel.

How Is the PCR Test Done?

For this test, we collect a fluid sample with a nasal swab in our office. We use specialized equipment to test the sample on site to give you test results quickly.

How Long Does It Take to Get My PCR Test Results?

Your COVID-19 PCR test results will be available in two to four hours. For an additional charge, we can provide your results in under an hour.

You will receive your test results by an email link that takes you to your secure HIPAA-compliant portal.

COVID-19 Antibody Testing With Results in 15 Minutes

We also offer antibody testing of your blood to see if you have the antibodies that fight SARS-CoV-2.

Your immune system creates antibodies to fight infections. If you were previously infected with or have been vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus, you may have antibodies to protect you from getting COVID-19.

If you test positive for the antibodies, it’s possible that your immune cells and antibodies will attack the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, if detected, to prevent you from becoming infected.

COVID-19 Rapid Antigen and Flu A and B Detection (One Test)

This test is performed using a nasal swab, and it can detect COVID-19 and influenza types A and B with a single test. SARS-CoV-2 and influenza A and B can be detected in upper respiratory samples during the acute phase of infection.

It is recommended that patients experiencing symptoms of the flu or COVID-19 have this type of sample done to ensure the proper screening of symptoms.
