New BOTOX® Law in Nevada Restricts Who Can Administer BOTOX® Injections

An upcoming law is causing quite a stir among Nevada residents. SB-101, an approved bill that is about to become law, will prevent anyone other than a physician from administering BOTOX® injections. This law goes into effect on July 1st and will change the course of treatment for many patients, but not for patients of Dr. Cristy Thomas, DNP, FNP-BC, APRN. As a nurse practitioner, she will still be permitted to administer your BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments.

Model Receiving a Facial InjectionWhy This New Law?

The purpose of SB-101 is to help ensure that no one other than a trained professional administers BOTOX® injections. The reasoning behind the law is that many individuals who have previously been allowed to inject BOTOX® (even dental hygienists) do not have sufficient medical training to do so safely. The risk is that they could unwittingly transmit communicable diseases by reusing vials of BOTOX® Cosmetic between patients. In 2008, a Vegas-based endoscopy clinic reused syringes on other patients, causing over 100 people to become infected with hepatitis C. Citing this event, advocates of SB-101 argue that those without the proper training put their patients at risk and should not be allowed to administer BOTOX® treatments.

How This Will Affect You

Physicians and nurse practitioners, because they undergo the professional training for how to safely treat patients with BOTOX®, will still be able to perform treatments as usual. Patients of Dr. Cristy Thomas, DNP, FNP-BC, APRN, will not be affected by this law. However, if your preferred BOTOX® Cosmetic administrator is not covered by this law, you will need to find a new clinic.

When the law goes into effect on July 1st, there will be both legal and health risks of violating the law and receiving BOTOX® Cosmetic injections from an unapproved person. Patient safety and well-being are of utmost importance to us at Vitality Medical & Wellness Center. All our returning patients and any new patients can rest assured that by coming to us, you will receive lawful treatment that follows all required safety practices.

BOTOX® Cosmetic Injections

BOTOX® Cosmetic injections can reduce the appearance of many facial wrinkles by blocking the nerve transmission to the muscles. This physician-administered treatment is used to soften moderate to severe frown lines, forehead wrinkles, and crow’s feet. Each treatment session is only 10 minutes long and produces noticeable results within just a few days. The results last up to four months and help patients achieve a more youthful look. Our nurse practitioner can administer BOTOX® Cosmetic injections under this new law to rejuvenate your appearance.

Wellness is not just about feeling good but also about looking good. Feeling and looking your best helps you have a better quality of life.
