You’ve likely heard of semaglutide or Tirzapatide injections for weight loss. Taking weekly injections with semaglutide or tirzepatide as the active ingredient have been shown to aid in weight loss and lower cholesterol and hemoglobin A1C levels when paired with a healthy diet and lifestyle. The new GPL-1 products can be taken as a daily pill, weekly or daily injection which can provide the same benefits as the weekly injections you’ve come to trust.
But can semaglutide really help you attain the slimmer and healthier body you’ve been trying for?
What Is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide are glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor antagonists (GLP-1 RA) that mimic a natural GLP-1 hormone made in the intestines and triggered by eating. This medication was initially approved by the FDA for treating type-2 diabetes; however, it has been proven effective for weight loss.
While semaglutide is most commonly known by prescriptions Ozempic®, Wegovy®, and RYBELSUS® (and prescriptions can be written by Vitality Medical Wellness Center), non-brand name semaglutide injections and capsules are also available in-office for weight loss.
What Is Tirzepatide and Liraglutide?
While not semaglutide, there are several other prescription medications commonly confused with semaglutide, including Mounjaro® (tirzepatide) and liraglutide. These medications have a similar history to semaglutide and were originally created to help patients with type 2 diabetes control blood sugar levels.
Tirzepatide, commonly known by its brand name Mounjaro®, works similarly to semaglutide (like Ozempic®); however, it acts on GIP and GLP-1 receptors, instead of only GLP-1 receptors. In some clinical studies, some patients experienced higher levels of weight loss with tirzepatide.
Liraglutide also works in a similar manner; however, clinical studies have shown that this medication cannot reach the weight loss levels offered with semaglutide.
Vitality Medical Wellness Center is proud to offer this beneficial weight-loss treatment along with our wide range of health services in Las Vegas.

Benefits of Semaglutide and Tirzepatide Injections
Significant Weight Loss
Semaglutide treatment triggers the GLP-1 receptors in the brain to signal satiety (stomach fullness) faster when you eat and also slows down the digestive process, making patients feel fuller longer to reduce their appetites.
Clinical trials have shown that these benefits significantly reduced calorie intake and led to substantial weight loss.
In one study, those who used a semaglutide injection for 26 weeks lost an average of 12.4 pounds, compared to individuals who took a placebo and only lost an average of 3.4 pounds.
In a different study, when part of an improved exercise and diet program, on average, those prescribed semaglutide lost 6% of their body weight after 52 weeks, compared to individuals who were given a placebo and lost approximately 1.5% of their total weight.
Not all semaglutide and tirzepatide compounds are the same. Everyone will experience their own results, which may take a shorter or longer period of time than the example above.
Reduced Cholesterol and A1C Levels
Semaglutide injections offer your body more than a reduction on the scale. While reaching and maintaining a lower, healthier weight is essential to overall wellness, it doesn’t tell the whole story of your health.
Patients given weekly semaglutide injections have experienced lower cholesterol and hemoglobin A1C levels, contributing to overall health and wellness.
Lowered Risk of Heart Disease
Studies also strongly suggest that semaglutide reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease over time.
This benefit is due to semaglutide’s ability to improve blood pressure and sugar regulation while reducing inflammation and cholesterol, which each increase the risk of heart disease.
Easy to Use
Semaglutide is available in two forms. The first is delivered as an injection once weekly, making it simple for individuals who find taking multiple medications daily challenging. These injections are administered in the abdomen or thigh.
Alternatively, a newer form has recently emerged, involving taking a daily capsule.
Can Help Patients Begin and Maintain a Healthier Lifestyle
Semaglutide is not designed to be used as a stand-alone weight loss treatment. Instead, it is intended to be part of a lifestyle that includes regular exercise and a healthy diet.
Semaglutide helps individuals control their calorie intake by feeling fuller, faster, and longer. Without regular exercise and a nutritious, low-calorie diet, they will not accomplish their goals as quickly as possible and will have difficulty maintaining the weight loss they do.
Personalized Weight Loss Treatments With Vitality Medical Wellness Center
While prescriptions can be written for semaglutide capsules or injections you perform yourself, we also offer weekly semaglutide injections with B12 in our Las Vegas office.
In addition to performing these injections, our team personalizes treatment plans, tailors the dosage, and supports patients through their weight loss journeys. Patients are asked to bring in weekly food logs and micronutrient counts to ensure they are doing everything they need to achieve their weight loss goals.
We are here to help guide our patients as they make lifelong lifestyle changes.
Am I a Candidate for Semaglutide or Tirzepatide Treatment?
Semaglutide injections or capsules are approved for patients with a body mass index (BMI) over 30 or who have a BMI over 27 with weight-related medical problems like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or some heart conditions.
Under direct medical supervision, semaglutide or tirzepatide for weight loss is safe and effective for most patients. In addition to its positive weight loss results, semaglutide does not alter mood like other weight loss drugs. This treatment simply reduces cravings and suppresses appetite.
Who Should Not Take Semaglutide or Tirzepatide ?
Semaglutide can cause inflammation of the pancreas or gallbladder disease in some people and may increase the risk of thyroid cancer. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should also not receive treatment with semaglutide as it poses harm to the fetus.
Do not take semaglutide injections if you have a history or high risk of developing the following conditions:
- Gallbladder disease
- Medullary thyroid cancer
- Multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2
Common side effects of semaglutide include:
These side effects are typically temporary and subside as your body adjusts to the medication.
Because Vitality Medical Wellness Center administers and tailors semaglutide treatments for each patient, we can provide guidance and will adjust your treatment if you are experiencing any of the above side effects.
How Does Semaglutide for Weight Loss Work?
Semaglutide works by reducing appetite in two ways. First, by replicating the natural hormones created in the intestines while eating and binding to the GLP-1 receptors in the stomach, pancreas, and brain, it signals the body to sense a feeling of fullness.
Semaglutide also delays digestion by slowing down the speed of food moving from your stomach into the intestines, resulting in longer-lasting fullness that further helps you reduce calorie intake.
